Today was soooo coooool! Graffiti came flying off in sheets and it was extreme to see Jim Morphesis’ face peek out again, unveiled, from the beneath the much, vandalism and the dark side into the bright sun of the Southern California Nov. 16th sunny day. I have to say that I would die to have that powerwasher in my hands. That looks like so much fun! Well, the difference between the old intervention time and yours to me can only be translate in one word. HONESTY. Although I am all about testing and diagnosis and I have been working in this field for over 20 years, I am still flabbergasted when I hear that sites are sometimes open for 10 years. Sometimes things that don’t have anything to do with restoration unfortunately get in the way, read politics here. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hai ragione quando parli di onesta’ nel cantiere di lavoro. Purtroppo, c’e’ chi lavora e chi fa finta. Non so se hai notato nel video ma una delle persone con l’idropulitrice in mano e’ una ragazza che fra l’altro quando non lavora in cantiere, canta la lirica professionalmente. Infatti, 30 giorni fa era una presentatrice con gl’Oscar Canadesi a Toronto. E’ bellissima. Mi fa sorridere quando la vedo in cantiere con gl’atrezzi in mano e un attitudine d’attaco.

Elisabetta,This week was extremely interesting for our project of taking back the gorgeous murals from the graffiti vandals along the downtown freeway of Los Angeles. We got off all the graffiti in less than a week’s cleaning! Last time (2005… done by someone else) the cleaning/restoration took 6 months!

November 24, 2011I have a friend in the Bay Area that sends me photos of the murals. You are right. There are some gorgeous murals including some great “street art” (graffiti style turned into art) which I love. Also, I have done consulting work for the SF Arts Commission and know well about the great WPA style works. I have done extensive mural work for the city of SF, the Asian Art Museum and the De Young.
